We start from Son Amer Refuge in Lluc valley, a tranquil oasis high in the Tramuntana mountains. Lluc Monastery has been the destination of pilgrimages for hundreds of years. A circular route along stone paths in holm oak forest with lovely views into the valley with the monastery at its base.
Much of the walk is on wide, well-defined tracks, and narrow dirt paths in the shade of holm oak woods. There are plenty of opportunities to dip into Mallorca's rural history with examples of ruined charcoal burners’ huts, ovens and silos and also an old lime kiln. Occasional glimpses through the woods give spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.
The monastery is rather overrun with tourists during the day. The boys ́ choir of Lluc (known as the “Blauets” or “Blue Boys” due to the colour of their cassocks) is one of the oldest of its type in Europe, having originated in 1531.
